Tribal Skirt Dancing Workshop (Toronto)
July 19 from 1pm-4pm
At Habeeba's Dance Studio
179 Dundas Street East (@ Jarvis)

Join us for an afternoon of tribal-styled skirt dancing! From ITS vocabulary to Turkish Romani moves, there will be a variety of ideas to integrate into your repertoire. After a pilates-based warm-up, we’ll drill combos and some choreography.

This workshop will be multi-level. Some bellydance experience required, whether traditional or tribal.

Please wear leggings or dance pants; our warm-up will start on the floor. You may wear dance slippers if necessary, otherwise, we will be dancing in bare feet.
Bring a multi-yard skirt to wear with your dance clothes.

There will be a couple skirts on hand to borrow, but we recommend the following vendors to order from if you need to buy one:

Flying Skirts

We’ll need 8 students registered to run the workshop by July 10th. $48 for the workshop in advance; $55 at the door.

Music for Belly Dance
 Hi Everyone,

As a musician that often performs with or for belly dancers, I thought I'd post to the Canadian belly dance community to see what people are listening to and what they prefer music-wise.

Of course there are a number of divergent styles of belly dance and quite a lot of different musical tastes out there.  But I ask because though my current project Azphodel has focused on Tribal Fusion (somewhat), I aim to take that project in a different direction but will continue to delve deeper into the tribal fusion and world fusion dance movements with other projects.

Also, as a player of several traditional Near Eastern instruments (mainly Turkish yaylı tanbur and Turkish mey), a lot of my focus currently is on instrument technique and Turkish art and folk music.  I also play a selection of Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek and other music other than Turkish.  Any dancers out there that love the traditional (or a fresh new take on traditional) stuff that have input, please chime in!!

Thanks everyone,

~Zane Lazos
